Why Your Convos are Often Dry: 5 Tips for Better Communication

Two people having a thoughtful conversation, illustrating effective communication strategies

Talking isn’t just a basic way to communicate with people. It revolves around several factors and defines the impression we make to others, and many still struggle to say what’s on their mind. Here are 5 tips to help enhance your convos at work, in school, and when meeting your new neighbors at Lucerne Grand.

Stretch Your Words

Try to make your words come out slower and speak in a more relaxed manner, giving you short yet essential times to think. This avoids unnecessary stutters and gives you a more confident look with polished words across a paced delivery.

Add Intervailing Pauses

Pauses can make a conversation flow more naturally, giving you and the listener time to think and process. Pausing helps you better formulate your thoughts and prevent rushed responses, same goes with the person you’re talking to. This leads to a better understanding of what each of you are saying.

Listen More

Listening isn’t just hearing what someone said, it’s processing one’s sentence thoroughly. Then, you can come up with questions or responses efficiently to keep it going and entertaining. Active listening involves paying attention to the person’s cues, acknowledging their views and points, and letting them finish their thoughts before talking.

Be Confident

While it’s easier said than done, confidence masks anxiety and overthinking. Without this trait, you won’t be able to talk to others, stutter way more than needed, and overall be awkward in the situation. You can practice this by improving your posture then learning other skills to build additional qualities alongside confidence, such as self-esteem.

Record Yourself

The only reliable and honest judge to you is yourself, and you can see and listen to how you talk in a recording. Watch the clip and try to find as many spots where you can apply the earlier tips and focus on improvements.
