Your website is not just your virtual business’ space, it’s also an essential part of your brand and your business’ overall presence. Before the internet got this big, most businesses didn’t have a website, their physical store and offices were the representation and image of their brand and company. Today, most people don’t visit a store or an office to get to know a business, they visit their website, thus, it is fundamental that every inch and aspect of your website represents your business perfectly.

What font should I use

Fonts are a very personal aspect of web design, it subtly marks the tone of your business. There are two basic distinctions when it comes to fonts, Serif and Sans Serif.

Serif is a more elegant and old-school type of font, whilst Sans Serif has a more minimalistic aspect.

We’re not going to address the endless amount of fonts because it would be pretty long. Nevertheless, Serif and Sans Serif are the basic ones used in blog posts, as well as web design. You can opt to have your headings in a Serif font and your subheading and text in Sans Serif, it can create a nice blend.

Serif fonts can give your site a more regal, elegant and formal style. On the other hand San Serif, can give your site an edgier and more minimalistic look.

Depending on the tone you want to set with your website and your brand you can choose a font that helps you achieve this. A professional web designer is the best option to help you create the perfect font family for your site, this way your headings and text are synchronized with the same tone, with one font supporting the other ones and vice versa.

What color palette should I use?

You need to consider that you need a primary color, this will usually be the primary color of your logo as well. It will be the color that will set the primary shade through your site. A secondary color is necessary to highlight buttons, links and other information. Some web designers will also choose a third color to break a monotonous color palette, this will usually be used in bits throughout the site, maybe as a hover color for certains buttons.

You want to make sure that your secondary or tertiary color don’t overrun your primary color, keep in mind that these are mainly to give it an extra edge, not to create a rainbow of colors. If your primary color is purple, your secondary color could be lilac and your tertiary color mauve, or you could spice it up a bit, by adding a bright shade of pink as a tertiary color.

It’s important to keep the color palette in a harmonious way, so your site could represent your brand how it’s meant to be. Keep the color palette synchronized with your logo and your image. You can use color psychology if you want to create a color palette that emits a deeper significance.
