Fatal Error Crew Hacks Sony Xperia Brazil, Leaves Message “Fatal Error Ownz You!”

The Fatal Error Crew hackers have certainly been busy, documenting a series of web attacks on at least ten documented sites this month, and countless others in the past. This documents one of their more serious attacks on a big name company- Sony Xperia Brazil (as documented by zone-h).  This isn’t the first time that Sony has been hacked, earlier— a devoted application called “Back-up and Restore” was hacked in 2014 of last year (as documented by xperiablog).

Sony released a statement about the attack on their support forums:

“Sony Mobile takes the security and privacy of customer data very seriously. We are currently investigating these reports. More information will follow as soon as we have fully assessed the situation.”

That particular hack left their Play Store app completely unusable, as planned by the “HeArT HaCkEr Group.” The worst part was that it was impossible to delete, meaning that it was a serious security issue. Sony had detailed warnings posted on forums and other websites highlighting the hazards of downloading their application.

Other Websites Have Dealt With the Fatal Error Crew Hacker Group

While this incident isn’t nearly as serious, many other website owners have reported similar problems throughout the hacking group’s reign of terror. One user reported getting hacked on Snow Leopard Server, where they replaced the indexing image with their own image. When the user cleaned the page, they were left the same message that Fatal Error Group gave the Sony Xperia Brazil and Sony Ericsson:

“Sony Xperia OWNED !!! Fatal Error Crew, Somos: Elemento_pcx – s4r4d0 – sup3rm4n !”

The hacker group’s intentions aren’t exactly clear, and there haven’t been any other statements from Sony about this breach. We’ll keep you updated with details as this story progresses
