Are Banks the Safest Websites There Are?

Are Banks the Safest Websites There Are?

It can’t have escaped many people’s attention that cybercrime and security remains hugely important. It seems like every week we read or hear about an attack of some kind or another on a major corporation or business. The motivation isn’t always the same. Sometimes it’s to hold the organization to ransom until they pay a demand. At other times it’s just the work of hackers who have set themselves the challenge of breaking through a system’s defenses.

Whatever the motivation and purpose, it’s annoying, disruptive, and often very expensive to resolve.

One sector that is particularly at risk from malicious hacking is banking and finance in general. The reasons are obvious. Not only will it give access to large sums of money, but banks also hold all kinds of personal data about their customers, data that could be very useful to cybercriminals.

So, understandably, banks have some of the tightest security measures there are. But they are matched by another, more surprising, sector and that’s the online slots sites that have multiplied over recent years. They draw in players with a combination of generous welcome bonuses and captivating games that feature a wide range of themes from lucky leprechauns in search of pots of gold to the treasures of the Egyptian pyramids. But, behind the glitz and glamor of the sites, they are serious businesses that are responsible for the safety of their players’ data, not to mention the money that they may have deposited or won on the site.

This means that they have to measure up to the most rigorous of professional standards and this begins with being officially licensed to operate. Many are based in the UK and it’s the role of the Gambling Commission to license and oversee not just online sites but all gambling and lottery operations in the country. An important part of their regulatory powers is having the ability to fine operators who fail to measure up and, in extreme circumstances, to remove their operating licenses.

As well as being under the scrutiny of the Commission, online casino sites also generally have two-level authentication required before access to be gained. There’s also a need for would-be players to officially register for a site to prove their identity, address, and perhaps most importantly, their age to confirm that old enough to play legally on the site. These sites also use RNG to ensure every game is fair, and not amendable by others.

Naturally, there is also a very high level of encryption used on all sites and the most reputable ones will also have achieved ISO27001 certification for their information security management.

So, there are a number of reasons why online slots sites and casinos are so meticulous when it comes to security. But, like banks, the most important one is that they need to maintain the trust of their players.

It all adds up to the fact that you can trust a reputable site as much, if not more, than a bank. And that must give great peace of mind to the millions who play on them every single day of the year.
