Nvidia is preparing to release not one, but two new Shield TVs to replace the first version launched in 2015. This time, the chipset will not be the same, unlike that of the updated version released in 2017. Of the expected variants, one of them will lose support for the TV Tuner and USB port.
After two years of waiting, the fans of the Nvidia Shield TV, the best android tv box will finally benefit from a new version with an updated remote control and controller. Leaks have intensified since March, and we know that this new box will be released under Android 9.0 Pie.
Nvidia Shield TV: two new boxes for the end of 2019
So far, we have heard about a new Nvidia Shield TV being in the works under the code name “mdarcy.” Inside, we will find an updated version of the SoC Tegra X1 chip, which is already getting old although it still holds its own four years after its release.
And the time has finally come to move on. Nvidia will follow the same path as Nintendo, which recently introduced a new smaller switch that incorporates a revised version of the SoC Tegra X1, the more powerful Tegra X1 T210 B01. It is the same chip that will be at the heart of the new Shield TV “mdarcy,” which will make it more compact and more efficient.
According to XDA-Developers, another version of the box (currently called “sif”) is expected to launch before the end of 2019.
The second new Shield TV will also run on the new chip, and its reference has been identified in the source code of the Kernel and the NVIDIA SHIELD Experience 8.0 program.
The first elements give a brief overview of its technical datasheet. This version would indeed be without the TV Tuner and USB support. However, there will be a microSD port to replace that.
For the moment, no more details have been shared. We expect to know more in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!
