Should You Upgrade To Samsung Galaxy 10?

It’s only been a few years since the Galaxy 8 was launched to the public. Its top-of-the-line hardware still holds up well compared to the latest offerings on both Android and iOS fronts.

Along came the Galaxy 10, Samsung’s latest offering that boasts more or less the same dual-curved display, glass-backed and metal rim construction. They both have an IP68 rating and cameras placed at the middle instead of side.

Is there more than meets the eye? We address the question ‘Should I upgrade from Samsung Galaxy 8 to Samsung Galaxy 10?’

Display

On paper, the Galaxy S10 boasts a bigger screen size at 6.1 inch compared to the S8’s 5.8 inch display. Aspect ratio is also raised at a pleasing 19:9 resolution, up from the S8’s 18.5 to 9.

It may not sound much, but when you put both on a side-by-side position you’ll notice that the Galaxy S10’s display occupies more screen real estate. A larger screen will require higher overall resolution, to which the S10 doesn’t disappoint. Brightness is set at 1,200 nits max, higher than the S8’s 1,000-plus nits. You also get HDR10+ standard, which really makes video content pop out for a better viewing experience.

On a side note, both models sport a Samsung-standard QHD+ resolution and Super AMOLED technology.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S8 features a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera, while the Galaxy S10 touts an array of three lenses, one 16MP and two 12MP for the rear and a 10MP camera at the front.

That said, it’s definitely time for a Samsung trade-in if you want the latest and greatest camera hardware setup today.

Power

It can’t be called an upgrade if there’s no difference in processing power. Thankfully, the new Samsung Galaxy S10 has plenty of new tech.

The S8’s Snapdragon 835 has been replaced with a speedier Snapdragon 855 processor and a vapour cooling system that gives users more computing power for longer. On the memory side, the S8’s 4GB of RAM is doubled to 8GB for the Galaxy S10.

Storage

Smartphone users who love to accumulate content will love the Samsung Galaxy S10 and its improved storage capacity.

Standard storage options for the S8 is maxed at 64GB, while the S10 boasts a whopping 512GB internal storage. Both models have external expandability when they use their smartphone’s microSD slot on up to 512GB.

Battery

Both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the S10 support wireless charging. The S10 beats the S8 in terms of battery size (3,400 mAh compared to 3,000 mAh).

All-New Tech

Aside from hardware improvements, the Samsung Galaxy S10 has newer tech that adds to the overall quality of life for the user. You’d benefit from the latest technology and all the great features if you opt to do a Samsung trade in and upgrade to the S10.

The front display houses the fingerprint technology instead of the back for aesthetic purposes. Samsung has utilized Qualcomm’s ultrasonic sensors to map a 3D image of your fingerprint so you can unlock your mobile securely and without having to reach on the back.

Wireless PowerShare is an ultra-useful innovation that eliminates the need for wired charging, not just for your Galaxy phone but for other wireless charging devices as well. You can put the S10 atop a Qi-enabled charger to top it up, and have the smartphone act as a Qi charger for your Samsung Galaxy Buds, for example.

Galaxy S8 vs Galaxy S10 – Upgrade or Not?

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is a flagship phone that doesn’t compromise when it comes to hardware and new technology. The Galaxy S8 may only be a few years old, but it doesn’t have a higher camera array, screen display and front fingerprint sensors compared to the new S10.

Our verdict? Upgrade to the Samsung Galaxy S10, or you’ll be missing out on key improvements that can give you a more enjoyable smartphone experience!
