What is schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia affects 1% of the world population. Schizophrenia or paranoid schizophrenia is a mental disorder in which people find it challenging to differentiate between real and unreal. Schizophrenia patients tend to see the world differently; to be more precise, they perceive the world as a treat.

People who suffer from schizophrenia are usually unable to cope with their daily routines as they cannot behave or think commonly. Schizophrenia causes severe mental disruptions in which people start making hallucinations or delusions, such as they can see or hear something that does not exist.

In some extreme cases of schizophrenia, people speak in confusing ways and start having the perception that everyone wants to harm them. Moreover, a schizophrenic disorder may lead to severe depression and increasing the risk of attempting suicide among a few patients.

People who have schizophrenia cause profound damage to their surroundings, such as relationship problems or career-related issues. Fortunately, there exists schizophrenia treatment to allow people to lead a fulfilling and healthy life.

Symptoms of schizophrenia

There are four symptoms of schizophrenia:

  1. Early symptoms
  2. Positive symptoms
  3. Negative symptoms
  4. Cognitive symptoms

Causes of Schizophrenia

The research to determine the exact cause of schizophrenia is still on-going in the medical field. However, several significant factors can lead to schizophrenia, such as:

Genetics

Family members who had schizophrenia in the past can lead to similar cases in the future generation.

Premature birth

Premature birth can cause abnormal brain structure. Hence, leaving the possibility to become a victim of schizophrenia.

Environment

People may become prone to schizophrenia due to excessive exposure to toxins or viruses during infancy.

Trauma

Any severe trauma can indeed cause schizophrenia, such as witnessing a murder, violent death of someone close, terrorism, or rape.

How to treat schizophrenia?

Fortunately, the treatment for schizophrenia is available in India. However, it requires a combination of therapy, lifestyle changes, medications, and professional help to treat schizophrenia. It is essential to be conscious that some people may overcome their symptoms and start leading a healthy life with the right treatment.

Besides, treating a schizophrenic patient is time-consuming. Many people have the misconception that once a schizophrenic patient is recovering from its symptoms, they are all set to live a happy life. Unfortunately, this statement is invalid as it is imperative to continue regular treatment for schizophrenia so that new episodes do not trigger in the patient’s life again.

Medications

Doctors will indeed provide pharmaceutical drugs to help overcome hallucinations, delusions, or abnormal thinking in a schizophrenic patient. Unfortunately, the medicines may not work wonders to supply energy or interest in daily routine activities. It is crucial to be aware that pharmaceutical drugs may contain harmful side-effects.

Hence, it is imperative to visit a doctor and get the right dosage for the schizophrenia treatment. Usually, doctors provide a high-dosage of medications at the beginning of the treatment. The doctor will gradually lessen the dosage depending on how the patient reacts to the medicine.

Therapy and meditation

It is highly compelling to subscribe to a social support center if you want to manage schizophrenic symptoms. Therapies and meditation, such as yoga, will help improve and cope with the daily routine. Moreover, it will also assist in overcoming stress, anxiety, and depression among schizophrenic people.

Lifestyle changes (Self-Help)

Schizophrenic patients need to showcase their courage in changing their lifestyle to manage this illness. They can start by getting involved in physical activities, have a proper diet and routine sleep, wake up at the same time every day, and reduce alcohol and tobacco intake.

Conclusion

Conclusively, living with the schizophrenic disease is not an easy task. However, if you have the right guide on coping with this illness, you will undoubtedly be able to live a fulfilling life ahead. Always remember to remain positive during the treatment and never lose hope.
