At one point in their lives, almost everyone faces the problems that moving entails. Even if the reason for relocating is a joyous one, moving can turn into an arduous process, filled with many tasks that will take a lot of your time and nerves as well. Luckily, there are ways to make moving easier. Smartphone apps that are designed to help people move are one of the better ways to ease your relocation. With that in mind, we’ve made this list of 5 apps that make moving a lot easier. Utilizing them is sure to bring some order into a moving process that could otherwise easily turn into chaos.

#01 Wunderlist

The first of the 5 apps that make moving a lot easier that we’ll discuss today, is called Wunderlist. Or rather it was called Wunderlist, until it evolved into an application called Microsoft To Do back in September. Still, after many years of using this app, its fans have a hard time calling it differently.

Although this app wasn’t created specifically for moving purposes, it can be of great assistance when it’s time to relocate. Basically, Wunderlist is a planning application that can help you organize your move. Depending on the type of your move, organizing it can be either hard or very hard. If you’re switching towns and, for example, leaving Miami and settling down elsewhere in Florida, your move will be harder to pull-off than if you were moving within the same city. And if you were moving from Florida to, let’s say, New York – then you’ll need all the organizational help you can get.

Wunderlist can be seen as a sort of a digital checklist. Alt text: A moving checklist in a notebook, not disimilar to one of the 5 apps that make moving a lot easier.

That’s when Wunderlist comes in! To-do and shopping lists are easily made, and Wunderlist’s elegant interface makes it easy to keep track of your lists. What’s more, you can also set reminders and deadlines to help you manage your progress. And if you’ll be moving with someone else, you can collaborate more easily by using Wunderlist, as this app allows you to share lists and work together on meeting those deadlines.

Wunderlist is available on iOS and Android, as well as on Windows and Mac OS systems.

#02 Sortly

Then, there’s Sortly. This neat app is very useful when it’s time to pack your belongings. It lets you easily keep track of the packing process as it allows you to come up with a visual inventory of all the things you’ll be transporting. After downloading Sortly, you can use it to take pictures of your belongings. Then, inside the app, you can organize the pictures anyway you like – according to the box where they’re placed, according to their respective rooms, etc.

One particularly useful feature that Sortly comes with is the option to add QR code markers to each box. Later on, you can simply scan the given QR code and easily see which items are located inside the box! This feature makes unpacking a lot easier. And if you’ll be moving with the help of qualified professionals working for bestcrosscountrymovers.com, they’re surely be happy that you’ve assigned QR codes and kept detailed lists once it’s time to help you unpack.

Sortly is available on iOS and Android.

#03 GoShare

Having professional movers help you each step of the way makes moving a lot easier. However, among the 5 apps that make moving a lot easier as well, we also have to mention GoShare, an app that lets you hire movers who will only help you with the shipping phase. This is a great tool for people who are prone to procrastination, as you can order a moving van that will arrive at your doorstep within the hour!

GoShare

The fact that GoShare allows you to quickly hire and organize professional movers makes it easy to see why this application is one of the 5 apps that make moving a lot easier. Alt text: Movers helping a woman move.

GoShare allows you to customize your order in detail. For example, you can choose the size of the moving vehicle, the number of workers that will be assisting you, and the precise date and time of day when the movers should arrive. Whether you need your furniture transported, your junk removed, or you’re looking to relocate all of your belongings in full – GoShare is the right app for you.

Still, it’s worth noting that working with a specialized moving company from the start definitely has its advantages. There’s a lot more to moving than shipping, and reliable movers can help you practically with each and every task you’ll need to take on. But, if you’re moving on a budget or you think you can handle everything else on your own, then you can’t go wrong with GoShare.

GoShare is available on iOS and Android.

#04 OfferUp

Often, people don’t realize that the cost of relocating your things doesn’t only include the distance of the move, but also the weight of the transported belongings. This means that less items to move = more affordable relocation. That is why decluttering your home is something you should definitely do before moving.

A lot of people (including yours truly) have a habit of keeping old things “just in case”, even though in all likelihood we’ll never need them again (if we ever did in the first place). Getting rid of such items prior to moving will make your relocation both cheaper and easier to handle.

But, how to get rid of these items? A good way to do that is with the help of a wonderful little app called OfferUp. With this app, you can easily post a picture, a description, and the asking price for all items you want to sell. People who are living in your area can then make offers for your items. And once you strike a deal, you can use a built-in messenger to easily arrange the meeting.

OfferUp is available on iOS and Android.

#05 Nextdoor

Nextdoor

While we do believe that your home isn’t chaotic as much as the one on this picture, decluttering will still do you do good. Alt text: A very messy room.

We’ll conclude this list of 5 apps that make moving a lot easier with one app that will be useful after you’ve moved. Namely, Nextdoor allows its users to connect with their neighbors quickly as soon as they first arrive at the given neighborhood.

While you can (and should) meet your neighbors in person, Nextdoor isn’t really a social app. Its function rather has more of an informative nature. Namely, Nextdoor works as a sort of a private group where neighbors can post important information, ask for help, etc.

If there were robberies in the neighborhood recently, someone can warn others to watch out. If you need to find good movers in the area or you’re looking for appealing real estate listings – you can ask via Nextdoor. Right after moving, you’re most likely need at least some info on your new neighborhood. And that’s when it’s time for Nextdoor to shine.

What’s more, in order to make sure that there isn’t anything strange happening, all members are first required to prove that they actually live in the given neighborhood by verifying their addresses before being accepted into the group. Thanks to this precautionary measure, any chance of pranks are kept to a minimum.

Nextdoor is, unsurprisingly, available on iOs and Android.
